All about us

The Restaurant "KOLK" is created from the family Richter since 1989. That house was built in 1873 as a fire station.

Cuisine:
Up-to-date German cuisine with freshly prepared sesonal dishes. A special menu to suit a range of prices is changed daily. Special requests and special diets can be catered for at all times. Menues are not "hard and fast" and can be extended or changed at the request of customers. Klaus-Dieter Richter, Head-Chef, is always ready to give advice and recommendations.

Atmosphere:
Rustic elegance. Built at the Spandau Fire Station in 1873, opened iln 1989, after a period in which it was put to a variety of uses, as a restaurant.

Setting:
Our restaurant is situated directly at the entrance to the historic "Kolk", one of the oldest parts of Spandau which nestles beside the old city walls, adjacent to the Old Town of Spandau with its excellent shopping facilities and large pedestrian precinct. Adjacent to the renowned Church of St. Nicholas and to historic buildings. Two minutes away from the Spandau lock. Five minutes from the Citadel, Berlin’s most famous historic stronghold. A visit to the open air stage which is found there is not to be missed. Five minutes from Spandau Town Hall. Adjacent to Spandau’s "Varianta" Theatre which is only two minutes away. The moorings on the "Lindenufer" are 5 – 10 minutes away and, going in the opposite direction, the "Wröhmännerpark" moorings are 5 minutes walk away.

Seating capacity:
75 places. Possibilitiy to divide off 35 places. Small terrace in front of the restaurant with 20 places. Rear garden with 50 places lies directly between the city walls and the Mühlengraben.

The History of the Building of the
"Kolk Restaurant"

Just like the famous citadel, the "Kolk" and the suburb of Oranienburg are inseparably linked with the history of Spandau. In fact the "Kolk-Restaurant" has been created in one of the historic buildings of the area.

It was built in 1873 as a fire station and 10 years later, in the spring of 1882, being already too small, it was pulled down. It was rebuilt to its present dimension in December of the same year and, until 1916, served as a base for the Spandau fire service. In the year immediately following it housed a number of small manufacturing concerns. Finally, in 1989, the Richter family created here the Kolk gateway, the centre of culinary excellence wich stands between the old and the new Spandau. We are continuing part of the long gastronomic tradition wich ties us with Spandau.
